How Does
PRP work?

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment is made up of two components: plasma, the liquid portion of whole blood, and platelets, which are blood cells responsible for causing blood clots and other necessary healing and growth functions. A tube of blood drawn from the patient’s arm is put into a centrifuge to separate red blood cells from plasma, and this plasma is injected directly into the scalp. The growth factors in the PRP concentration help to stimulate the activity of hair follicles and promote new hair growth.

Who’s It For?

PRP is an excellent option for anyone suffering from conditions like female or male pattern baldness, thinning hair, or androgenic alopecia.

It can also be used as a preventative measure, to slow or halt hair loss before it becomes a significant issue, and can help maintain hair transplant results.

Trust

The Results

Patients see visible results after 2-3 months, and typically require 3-4 treatments to get the best results.

Results vary from person to person, but can last as long as 18 months. At this point, to help maintain results in the long term, we recommend occasional top-up treatments down the line.

Answer
Frequently Asked Questions

PRP FAQs?

Does it Hurt?

There’s no real discomfort involved. No more blood is taken than would be taken for a standard blood test, and numbing is applied to make the injections as comfortable as possible. Over the counter painkillers can be taken after the procedure as and when needed to help manage any soreness.

How Much Does It Cost?

At Define, your initial course of 3 PRP treatment sessions will cost you £900. If more or fewer sessions are needed, this can be discussed with your practitioner.

Is There Any Downtime?

One of the biggest benefits of PRP as a hair loss treatment is that the solution is made up entirely of your own white blood cells and plasma, so unlike with other hair loss treatments, there’s no risk of allergy or reaction. Because it’s done via very small injections, it’s minimally invasive. As such, there’s next to no downtime at all, and you can get straight back to your normal routine.

Who’s a Good Candidate?

There are a few things that may disqualify you from being suitable for PRP treatment. Platelet disorders might make you unsuitable, and you might also fail to qualify if you have severe anaemia, an active scalp infection, liver dysfunction or poorly controlled diabetes. As with any treatment, if you’re not sure if it’s what’s best for you, it’s always a good idea to come along for a consultation and speak with one of our experts.
